Khoa's LAN Report
Pleb Events LAN might be something of a misnomer because we didn't actually play any LAN games in the end; neither Soldat nor RA2 worked and after that we gave up. Play was mostly on the Wii and 360, although there was also a bit of FEAR and WoW. I played some Minesweeper at about 1200 x 1200 on Sheahan's massive screen. However we mostly agreed that it would be good to have some sort of properly organised thing where we can get some games working.

Some photos after the jump.

Movie postponed
Pleb Events Due to crappy weather which would make Oatley Pub's beer garden very uninviting, plus several people being occupied, the night is being postponed. However I would like it to happen some time next week otherwise, as Thomas rightly pointed out, it will get lost in the ether and never happen. Also I really really want to see Daniel Craig in tight swimming pants and am having trouble standing the wait.

I have started a new thread in the forum where it would be good if interested people could post when they are free so that we can pick a date next week.

Future of Plebsquad.com
Pleb Events It's pretty obvious that Plebsquad has lately been more empty than the Cronulla Sharks' premiership trophy cabinet. This has happened in the past and then the site has become busier again, but for some reason it feels more definitive this time.

A couple of months ago the admins were talking about this. There is no desire among any of us to shut down the site, because we all find it very useful for the hosting of random files, as well as space for other projects or groups such as PackRat's productions site or Matt's WoW clan. My plebsquad email is very entrenched too and I don't have a good alternative yet until I can make Thunderbird receive Gmail properly.

At least for the foreseeable future, therefore, Plebsquad will remain around. There may be some changes to hosting arrangements etc in future but for now, Midphase seems to be doing a decent job of keeping us online.

However there are two actual things to get across in this post:

1. I have started a more personal blog over at michaelwest.wordpress.com - yes, I know I could have just hosted it here, but for now I want to have the ability for it to stick around no matter what ends up happening to Plebsquad. I may get sick of it soon and then it won't matter either way but I'd like to keep updating it for a while. It will still cover similar sorts of stuff to the random things I've submitted to this news page or my html articles. Read it if you want, otherwise ignore my rambling. Like most blogs it's more cathartic than anything, I certainly have no delusions like many bloggers that my opinions are going to be valued by the world at large or will make me fame or money.

2. The lack of virtual contact makes me realise that it would be great to catch up with everyone again IRL, now that hopefully everyone has finished exams. Khoa's week LAN/party thing is one opportunity but also perhaps in the next week or so, for example this Friday 15 December. I don't have any particular ideas but we always belabour event planning so much; we should just go to a pub (Oatley is quite nice, and close to public transport), maybe catch a movie (eg. Casino Royale) or get something proper to eat as well. If anyone has suggestions on those 3 aspects or a more substantial idea, post comments below. (I will probably comment myself when I refine the plan.) Comment also if you're free. This is being planned without any pre-finding out of whether people are available or even if they still read plebsquad so some changes might follow, but I'm keen to get at least something together.

50 years of STHS Bexley
Pleb Events Update: I have too much work to do so I won't be going any more, also taking into account what Matt said. Not that you always have to be informed of my movements, this is just in case anyone was thinking of going but hadn't posted.

This September represents 50 years since Sydney Tech moved into the Bexley site, and so the school's having some sort of event next Monday (Sept. 11), I think it's from 4-6pm. I've been meaning to go back for a while anyway - I have to talk to Mr Heath about history debating, which I adjudicate - so I'll head in for a bit. Phillip told me about it; I'm not sure who's going, and I know it wouldn't appeal to everyone but I thought I'd post it to let you know. If you want to go, I think you're meant to tell the school by calling them on 9587 5899.

Will post status updates about the Pleb Tree, Pleb Area and Packrat Pondage (aka Lake Packrat) if I remember to take my camera.
